ESOT Study Scholarship - valid for 2019
ESOT Study Scholarships to facilitate travelling of the applicant up to two months to obtain specific knowledge and/ or skills which are important for his/ her overall career progression as well as to the overall work and progress of the applicant’s institution.
10 scholarships of EUR 2.000 each.
Terms of reference:
a. Applicants must be no more than 40 years old at the time of application.
b. Applications by transplant professionals of all disciplines will be considered.
c. Applicants must be ESOT members in good standing at the time of application.
Priority will be given firstly to applicants who wish to travel from a European institution to another European Institution, secondly to applicants who wish to travel from a European to a non-European institution, thirdly to applicants who wish to travel from an non-European institution to a European institution and finally to applicants who wish to travel from a non-European institution to another non-European institution.
Applications will include:
a. A complete CV of the applicant.
b. Two letters in support of the application by the Department Heads of the home and hosting institution. The letter from the home institution has to address the applicant’s achievements and overall professional development as well as the specific educational aims of the study period and the anticipated impact on the home institution of the knowledge/ skills gained during the study period. The letter by the Department Head of the hosting institution need to confirm acceptance of the applicant as well as to how achievable are the study aims considering the time and resources available.
c. A statement by the applicant outlining the scope and anticipated outcome of the study period as well as the importance of the study period for his/her overall career progression and the progress of his/ her home institution.
d. A basic budget of the allocation of the funds.
Applications will be open from the 1st of September to the 31st of October of a current year for study visits taking place in the next calendar year.
Reviewing and evaluation process
Evaluation of the applications will be conducted by an Evaluation Committee with the following members: the ESOT Secretary, 3 of the elected ESOT Councillors (to be appointed in rotation every year by the ESOT secretary) and 3 Chairs of ESOT Sections/ Committees (to be appointed in rotation every year by the ESOT secretary).
Every application will be scored independently by each member of the Evaluation Committee; the application will be scored from 1-10 in the following domains:
a) overall career progression and achievements of the applicant
b) evidence of a career committed to transplantation
c) clarity regarding the aims of the study period and their feasibility
d) relevance and importance of the study period to the career progression of the applicant and the overall progress of the home institution
e) clarity of the budget
Applicants with the 10 top sores will be awarded the scholarships.
The results will be announced to the applicants as well as in a prominent area on the ESOT website and through the ESOT Social media 4 weeks after the deadline for applications.
Follow up & Acknowledgement
Within 8 weeks from the completion of the study period, successful applicants will be obliged to provide to ESOT a short report regarding the study period and the relevant outcomes that will published in a special Section on the ESOT website. Applicants, who will fail to do so, will be banned for 10 years from applying for any type of ESOT grants.
