ECTTA 2016: Davide Gatti Award
Davide Gatti Award
This award has been developed in memory of Davide Gatti (1968-2016). Davide was affected by severe heart failure and died while waiting for heart transplantation. While on waiting list he severely deteriorated and needed to be implanted with ECMO. Despite this condition entitled for high urgency status, he was not offered a suitable organ and died of cerebral haemorrhage. Nevertheless, his family allowed for liver and kidney donation. Thanks to the local transplant coordinators team, he then became the first DCD donor in Bologna Academic Hospital. This award is meant to remember the generosity of Davide’s family and to prompt young researchers in the field of improvement of thoracic organ donation and thoracic transplant outcomes.
