Basic Science Committee EBSOT

In 2003, the European Basic Science in Organ Transplantation (EBSOT) committee was founded to promote scientific issues and transplantation research within ESOT. For the future of ESOT it is crucial to link clinical activities and basic research. To stimulate collaboration between scientists a network of European Laboratories of Excellence has been established called the Basic Science Network in transplantation.

It is important for the Council to adjust its policies and to be advised by a motivated group of scientists on fundamental research topics and developments in solid organ and cell transplantation.

EBSOT wants to contribute to the advancement, communication, education and support of basic science activities in Transplantation. Its educational activities are:
  • The Basic Course in Laboratory Skills
This course aims to expand the knowledge of laboratory skills within ESOT and to create an environment that stimulates collaboration between scientists.
  • The Basic Science Specialty Update Symposium
This Specialty Update Symposium focuses on research tools for transplantation and will be held at the biannual ESOT meeting.
  • The State-of-the-art Symposium at the biannual ESOT meeting containing lectures on transplant immunology.
  • EBSOT and ESOT Council support research in the field of transplantation by awarding a large grant programme.
  • The BSC makes recommendations to the Council for the Travel Grants as well as for the Junior- and Senior Basic Science Grants.
  • The biannual Basic Science meeting to promote basic as well as translational research in the field of organ transplantation
