ELPAT State-of-the-Art Session at the ESOT Meeting in Paris

Nikola Biller-Andorno (Switzerland) gave a presentation on ‘Caring Partner. Is it only love? Pitfalls in living related organ donation’. Transplanting organs from partner donors has become a routine procedure in many countries. However, donations from partners may not always be as voluntary as they seem.
Bijan Fateh-Moghadam’s (Germany) presentation was on ‘Hurdles for living unrelated organ donation’.Living organ donation from genetically non-related donors has significantly contributed to the success of living donation. However, in some European countries legal or cultural obstacles to this type of donation still exist.
Willij Zuidema (The Netherlands) gave a presentation on ‘Good Samaritan. An update on European practices’. Over the past years, some European centres have embarked on a Good Samaritan kidney donation program. This presentation focused on the selection, motivation and follow-up of these donors.
