Education Scope
One of ESOT’s main goals is to educate professionals in the field of transplantation. The Education Scope offers a comprehensive overview of the entire Educational Programme of ESOT in which all courses are briefly described below.
You can apply for these courses in the ESOT Member Avenue. You have to be either a Temporary member or a full ESOT Member to receive access to the Member Avenue. If you are not a (Temporary) Member you can apply here. Temporary Membership is free and lasts six months. If the course application of a Temporary Member is accepted, a Temporary Member has to become a full ESOT Member.

The Hesperis Course provides professional training to young doctors and researchers who enter the field of transplantation.

European Transplant Fellow Workshop - ETFW (20-25 participants)
During this 3-day course, young clinicians, both surgeons and physicians, will discuss new and current topics in the field of transplantation. Every participant will present a clinical case report which will be discussed.

European Donor Surgery Masterclass & Basic Course on the Split Liver - EDSM & BCSL (27 participants)
Junior Surgeons or Surgical Fellows, dedicated to organ donation and transplantation, who participate in organ procurement teams in Europe and wish to receive specialized training in this field, are kindly invited to apply for the EDSM Masterclass .

Basic Course in Laboratory Skills - LAB Course (8-12 participants)
During the LAB Course PhD students, both young physicians and scientists, learn the theory and practice of the laboratory techniques needed for our understanding of immune responses in experimental transplant models and in patients.

Introductory Program for Transplantation - IPT
This is a new e-learning course established to teach all the multi-disciplinary staff involved in transplantation about the basics of transplant. IPT has been designed to take trainees from elementary knowledge to the more advanced level where they may be able to take on the ESOT Hesperis Course or ETFW. IPT should be considered as a first step to learning in organ transplantation.

Young surgeons from European transplant centres get theoretical knowledge and practical skill in transplant surgery during this
5-days international training course where scientific exchange of information and experience between participants give an impulse to international research projects.

Specialty Update Symposia (150 participants in total)
These one-day symposia, previously called Postgraduate Courses, are typically organized on the Sunday prior to the biannual ESOT congress and allow the various sections and committees of ESOT to present and discuss relevant topics with the membership. Currently, the separate symposia are organized in parallel by EBSOT (basic science), ELITA (liver transplantation), EPITA (pancreas and islet transplantation) and the Thoracic Committee (thoracic transplantation).

International Course on Split Liver Transplantation and small-for-size Grafting (40 participants)
This course is a continuation of the split liver courses previously organized in Hamburg and the small-for-size symposia of Ghent. It aims at fully preparing liver transplant surgeons to perform split liver transplantations.

A master course in organ procurement and experimental procedures, in close collaboration with the Centro Nazionale Trapianti, Organizzazione Centro Sud Trapianti, Centro di Biotecnologie and the European Society for Organ Transplantation.

The course focuses on Deceased Donor Co-ordinators (DDC), Living Donor Co-ordinators (LDC) and Clinical Transplant Co-ordinators (CTC) with an accomplished basic training in their function, a current position as co-ordinator and a minimum of three years of experience in the position of co-ordinator.

Certification
The European Diploma in Transplantation Surgery is a result of a collaboration of ESOT and the Union Européene des Medecins Spécialistes (UEMS). The exam is organized by the Division of Transplantation of the UEMS Section of Surgery and the European Board of Surgery (EBS) in collaboration with ESOT for awarding the European Diploma in Transplantation Surgery.
